Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Museums Collection

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Museums collection database is now available online at www.shakespeare.org.uk .The online database, which catalogues over 8000 Museum records, is as a result of funding from the Museums, Library and Archives Council. Web users will be able to search for information including, date, style etc. from articles on display in the Shakespeare Houses as well as items held in the reserve collection that may be too fragile for display.

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust cares for an extensive range of collections, including items on display in the Shakespeare Houses and Harvard House and the Museum of British Pewter. These collections include a wealth of artefacts dating from the Shakespearean period, paintings of Shakespeare, furniture, sculpture, costume as well as archaeological finds from Anglo-Saxon and Roman times.

Aiden Graham of the Museums Department said "The online Museums Catalogue complements the online catalogues of the both the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust Library and Records Office which went live last year. It is an ongoing project that we will be continually updating and demonstrates the Trust's ongoing commitment to broadening access to the collection."
