Bursaries

 

The Society offers members the opportunity to apply for Research Bursaries and bursaries to assist in the cost of attending Regional Furniture Society Study Days or the Annual Conference.

NOTES FOR APPLICANTS:

RESEARCH BURSARY 

A small number of bursaries of up to £500 each are awarded annually. These bursaries are designed to encourage and support research projects related to regional furniture, with a view to publication. The research may be undertaken as part of a university or college course requirement, or as an entirely independent exercise. Successful applicants will normally be expected to submit an article, which will be considered for publication in the Society's Journal. 

Eligibility 

·         Individual members of the Regional Furniture Society and students at member colleges/universities are eligible to apply.

·         Research into any aspect of regional furniture history will be considered.

·         The award is to help with travel and other expenses associated with original and preferably ongoing research. 

Assessment Criteria

Each application is judged on its own merits, taking into account the following criteria:

·         Evidence of the quality and feasibility of the proposed study, based on the applicant’s account of the aims and research outline of the proposed topic, and available resources.  Illustrations should be included where applicable. 

Closing Date: 31January 2009.  Applications will be considered by the Journal Committee, which meets in February. All applicants will be notified of the decision in early March.

CONFERENCE/ STUDY DAY BURSARY 

A number of small bursaries, normally 50% of the fee, are available annually to help with the cost of atending RFS events. These bursaries are designed to encourage interest in the subject and support early-career professional members and students, particularly those who are new to the subject, to attend the annual conference or a meeting. Successful applicants will normally be expected to submit a short note for publication in the Society's Newsletter. 

Eligibility   

·         Individual members of the Regional Furniture Society in the early stages of their professional career

·         Students at member colleges/universities  

 

Assessment Criteria

Each application is judged on its own merits, taking into account the following criteria: 

·         Evidence that attendance will benefit the applicant’s professional development or academic progress. 

 Applications will be considered by the Council. All applicants will be notified of the decision.
